BIOGRAFIE

Henk studied at the Rotterdam Music Academy. Here he not only studied double bass and bass guitar, but also arranging and composition. He has developed a unique style combining a delicate playing with his fingers and using the bow.

In 1988 he was the only European who was invited to go to Los Angeles to compete in a contest organised by the International Society of Bassists, where he reached the semi-final.

He have played with a great amount of musicians like Joe Pass, Klaus Flenter, Jeff Hamilton, Rob van Kreeveld, Rob van den Broeck, Masha and Dries Bijlsma, Tony Lakatos, Bart van Lier, Adrian Mears, Jarmo Hoogendijk, The Baatsen Trio, Joke Bruijs, Denise Jannah and Benny Bailey among others.

Since 1993 he has been teaching at the ArtEZ Institute of Arts at Zwolle. His main subjects are bass guitar, double bass, composition and ensembles.

COMPOSITIONS

In 1999 Henk received a commission from the “Fonds voor Scheppende Toonkunst” (fund for creative music) for his band Special Delivery. This resulted in the compositions “Dodo”(see link) and “the Phosphorence of the Sea”, both of which can be found on their third CD “special Delivery”.
